A Frome-based collage artist has won Frome Art Society’s The People’s Choice award for her work ‘The Pink Pup,’ which is a collage using thousands of pieces of cut and torn recycled magazines.
Violet Von Riot’s work won the most public votes in the competition and is due to be presented with the Appleyard trophy on 13th December as well as being awarded £250 in prize money.
“My model for my winning piece is actually a Frome resident, named Skye,” explained Violet. “I have been creating collages for five years now. I create all of my work with recycled magazines, all locally donated to me. My work generally (but not exclusively) follows three themes, townscapes, dogs and bugs.
“I have created several huge pieces of Frome, and of Frome venues, including my Cheap Street, Catherine Hill, and a Market Place collages (all available from Studio Art and Frame) as well as The Cheese and Grain 25th year anniversary, the Corner House and Frome Medical Centre collages.”
