Holes in your jumper or jeans? Rips or tears in your favourite bit of clothing? Things lying in your cupboard waiting for that mend? Come and learn how to fix them with the Everyone Needs Pockets team.
Volunteers from the textile network will be out in the Westway Shopping Centre in Frome from 11am to 12 noon on Saturday 26th April, taking part in the national Mend in Public Day. The campaign started by Fashion Revolution encourages people to repair clothing in public spaces to resist disposable fashion, share mending skills and spark conversations about our clothes.
The event is a chance to talk to the stitchers and find out what you can do to help your loved clothes and textiles last longer and keep them out of landfill which helps solve the problem of the huge amount of textile waste created every year.
Everyone Needs Pockets also run regular How to Mend Your Clothes sessions in Frome and the next one is also on the same day, Saturday 26th from 1pm to 3pm hosted by Frome Boulder Rooms. This is a free, hands-on mending session in a convenient location with a cafe, but you’ll need to book in at bit.ly/mend-clothes-26apr.
For all the other mending sessions coming up, search Future Shed Eventbrite online or email everyoneneedspockets@gmail.com for information. A recent attendee said of their repair made at one of the mending sessions: “I’m so pleased, so pleased. I’ve never done anything like this before.” Another said, “Such an amazing atmosphere – to be part of everyone mending.”
Everyone Needs Pockets Clothing and Textile Regeneration Network is a growing group of over 150 stitchers, makers, designers and crafters in Frome that have come together with the support of Edventure’s Future Shed and the Lottery funded Green & Healthy Frome partnership programme.
If you are interested in clothing and textile sustainability, join the network to help combat fast-fashion and textile waste, learn new skills and meet others working to make a difference. The network usually meets on the second Friday of the month at the Edventure Hub, and run lots of inspiring activities including talks and upcycling workshops.
