Frome Town Band is holding its annual Christmas concert at the Merlin Theatre on Saturday 21st December at 7pm. It will be the first Christmas concert led by the band’s recently appointed conductor, Roy Dignum.
Roy joined the band in July and has already conducted them at the Remembrance service in November and the Cheese Show back in the summer.
“It has been a busy season for the band and a steep learning curve for me,” says Roy. “I have been involved in many bands and orchestras over the years, but never with a brass band like Frome, so rooted in the community and the town.”
Roy came to the band from Thurrock in Essex, where he was head of music services for the local authority. Now living in Wiltshire, he brings a wealth of musical experience to his role.
“It is a super community band, and that is important, but I also want the music to shine and for the band to make the best sound it can.
“Band members come from the local community and all are welcome to join and enjoy music-making with members ranging from 7 years old to 107.
“Rehearsals have been going well, and this year’s Christmas concert includes the traditional and the familiar with opportunities to sing along. It will be a real family experience and there will be some surprises and special guests.
Tickets are selling fast and in previous years it has been a sell-out event.
Tickets for this family celebration are available from the Merlin Theatre box office (or scan the QR code below for a link).
